My name is Kirk Crawford (he/him/his), and I am a Ph.D. student in the Human-Centered Computing (HCC) Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), and a researcher at the Designing Participatory Futures Lab (DARE).

My research interests center around understanding accessibility in marginalized communities, particularly the LGBTQIA+ community, people of color, and those at the intersection of these identities.
I am particularly interested in exploring how the use and non-use of assistive technology (AT) impacts community access to resources and ways to improve the design and implementation of AT to meet the needs of these communities. My research goal is to help inform new approaches to the processes, practices, and development of organizational structures that improve access to community centers, safe spaces, and other services for marginalized people. I specifically aim to use my research and my role in government as platforms to help shape inclusive community agendas and policies that address the diverse needs of marginalized communities.
